Tromsø Airport at a glance
Tromsø Airport (TOS), called Tromsø lufthavn Langnes in Norwegian, lies on the island of Tromsøya, the same island as the city center. Avinor runs it. A taxi to the center takes about 10 minutes, and the Airport Express lists 20 minutes from end to end.
You have three ways into town: the Airport Express, a regular city bus, or a taxi. The right one depends on your hotel, your luggage and the time of day. This is an independent guide, not the airport or a transport company.

Taxi and arrival formalities
What to know before you leave the terminal.
Taxi
The stand is to the left in front of the arrivals hall. Avinor describes Fast Travel kiosks where you choose a destination and a vehicle and see the price first.
Entry from Germany
German travelers can enter with a passport or an ID card that stays valid for the whole stay, and no visa is needed. Other nationalities should check their own rules.
Border checks
Avinor explains the EES, which records passport and biometric data of third-country travelers on short Schengen stays. EU and EEA citizens are exempt. No waiting times are published.
Money
Norway uses the krone (NOK). Cards and mobile payment are common, and Visa and Mastercard are more widely taken than Amex or Diners, but not every place takes every card.
Onward from the airport
Bridge works and island trips.
Across the bridge to Tromsdalen
The Tromsø Bridge is closed to cars. The newest notice from the county, dated October 16, 2026, says traffic reopens by November 27 at the latest. The municipality still names November 1. Cars use the Tromsøysund Tunnel, buses cross the bridge from 7 am to 5 pm with some cancellations, and pedestrians and cyclists can pass. See the Arctic Cathedral and Fjellheisen pages.
Kvaløya and Sommarøy
Kvaløya is reached by the connection near the airport. A day trip to Sommarøy takes about an hour by car, and bus line 420 runs from Tromsø, with no timetable listed here. See Sommarøy.
Going further north
The Lyngen Alps are a separate destination reached from Tromsø, and Lyngen explains how to get there. For Lofoten, Senja or the North Cape, North Norway covers the region.
