How Tromsø tours differ
Most tours here are tied to a season. Whale boats run in the dark months, the fjord cruise runs in two shorter windows, and sledding needs snow. Length varies from 3 hours on the water to a full day at sea. Check three things for each tour: the date range, the meeting point and what the price covers.
The examples below come from single operators. They show what one product costs, not a market range. Listed prices are not final checkout prices for every date, and a published offer does not show free seats on your day.

Tour examples compared
Adult prices in 2026. Each row is one operator's product.
| Tour | Length | Season | Adult price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Arctic Fjord Cruise (Brim) | 4 hours | February to April and September to October | NOK 1,290 |
| Aurora Dinner Cruise (Brim) | 3 hours, departs 7 p.m. | 4 September 2026 to 4 April 2027 | NOK 1,990 |
| Silent Whale Watching (Brim) | 8 to 9 hours | 1 October 2026 to 31 January 2027 | NOK 1,990 |
| Larger conventional boat (Brim) | About 8 hours | 1 November 2026 to 31 January 2027 | NOK 1,890 |
| Aurora Minibus Chase (Chasing Lights) | 5 to 9 hours | Dark season | From NOK 2,200 (first night) |
| Husky sled ride (Villmarkssenter) | 4 hours 15 minutes | 15 November to 30 April 2027 | NOK 3,390 |
| Long reindeer sledding (Tromsø Arctic Reindeer) | 4 hours | 31 October 2026 to 4 April 2027 | NOK 2,090 to 2,350 |
| Fjord tour to Sommarøy (Best Arctic) | 5 to 6 hours | – | From NOK 990 |
The husky listing gives 15 November to 30 April 2027 with no year on the start date, so confirm the start before you plan. An aurora cruise by Brim listed NOK 1,290 for 3 hours, but only for 1 November 2025 to 28 March 2026, so it is not a price for the winter of 2026/27.

The tour types in detail
What each one involves.
Fjord and dinner cruises
The Arctic Fjord Cruise is a 4-hour trip and a different product from whale watching. The Aurora Dinner Cruise lasts 3 hours and leaves at 7 p.m. A dinner on board does not guarantee northern lights.
Northern lights guide →Whale watching
The silent boat lists 8 to 9 hours, which is the whole tour and not time with whales. Whales were documented near Skjervøy and Spildra in 2025/26, and whale tours are not offered all year. The legal distance of about 370 m (1,200 ft) applies to fishing vessels and gear, not as a general distance to the animal.
Whale watching guide →Dog sledding
The sled ride is about 45 minutes in a shared sled, inside a 4-hour-15-minute program with a transfer of 25 to 35 minutes each way, a warm lunch and a thermal suit. The self-drive version needs a minimum age of 16 years. Departures are listed at 7:30, 8:30, 9:30 and 10:30 a.m.
Dog sledding guide →Reindeer with a Sámi family
The long tour includes the sled ride of 25 to 30 minutes, transfer, lunch, feeding and a cultural program. Shorter products start at NOK 1,890 for a short ride, NOK 1,490 for feeding with a meal and NOK 990 for an express visit. The meeting point is Samuel Arnesens gate 5 at Prostneset, 15 minutes before departure.
Minibus aurora chase
Chasing Lights lists a maximum of 15 guests and 5 to 9 hours depending on the weather. Pickup is at 5:20 p.m., early September and April at 6:20 p.m., at the Prostneset harbor. It is a night trip, not a short harbor tour.
The Sommarøy fjord tour
The Best Arctic trip lists NOK 990 for adults and NOK 890 for children aged 4 to 15. Since 1 September 2026 you meet at 9:45 a.m. at the Best Arctic counter in the Prostneset bus station, with departure at 10 a.m. Food is not included, and seats are given by arrival, not reserved.
Sommarøy guide →What to check before you book
The wording differs more than the prices do.
Date, product and meeting point
The same operator can list several products with different seasons and meeting points. Check that the date, the product and the place match. Public pages do not show whether seats are free on your day.
The service fee
The regional booking platform Visit Tromsø adds 3 percent to the total for bookings on its website, agent portal and visitor center. That applies to those channels, not automatically to a booking made directly with a tour company. The airport bus is sold on board as well.
Cancellation terms
Terms differ by operator and cannot be carried over. One reindeer operator lists free cancellation up to 24 hours before. For all others, read the terms before you pay.
Clothing
The dog center asks you to bring your own hat and gloves and sunglasses from February to April. The reindeer operator suggests at least two layers, a hat, gloves and winter boots.
Night driving rules
The municipality's guideline for aurora and fjord tour operators asks drivers to use permitted parking only, keep the road and roadside clear, respect private driveways and wear reflective vests near the road. Hazard lights do not allow a photo stop.

Tromsø tours: frequently asked questions
What is the best tour in Tromsø?
That depends on the season and what you want to see. Northern lights tours and cruises suit the dark months, whale watching runs from October or November to January, and sledding needs snow. The table above compares single examples, not a ranking.
How much do Tromsø tours cost?
The examples above range from NOK 990 for a Sommarøy trip to NOK 3,390 for the husky sled ride. These are single products for adults in 2026, not a market range, and extras can change the final price.
Do I need to book tours in advance?
Published offer pages do not show free seats for your date. For the airport bus, buying on board is possible. For other tours, check availability for your date before you plan around it.
Are meals included?
It differs by tour. The husky trip lists a warm lunch and the long reindeer tour lists lunch. The Sommarøy trip does not include food. Check each offer.
Can I see the northern lights on a dinner cruise?
A dinner on board does not guarantee a sighting. The season runs from 4 September 2026 to 4 April 2027, but the phenomenon depends on the sky and cannot be promised.
