Dog sledding near Tromsø in brief
The dog sledding tours described here run on Kvaløya and are offered by the husky center Villmarkssenter. You can ride as a passenger with a guide, or drive your own sled. Both take about 45 minutes on the sled, and the whole program lasts 4 hours 15 minutes because it includes the transfer, a visit to the dog yard and a warm lunch.
The operator lists the season as Nov 15 to Apr 30, 2027, daily. The line prints no start year, so confirm the first bookable date when you choose your day. Snow is the base of the winter product. In summer the same operator describes husky walks and puppy training, which is a different trip from sledding on snow.

The two husky options
What is included and who can take part.
Husky sled ride
Adults pay NOK 3,390 and children aged 3 to 12 pay NOK 1,695. You sit in a shared sled with a guide for about 45 minutes. The transfer takes 25 to 35 minutes each way, and the price includes the dog yard visit, a warm lunch and a thermal suit and boots.
Self-drive
Adults pay NOK 3,390 for about 45 minutes of shared driving, two people per sled, and you swap between driver and passenger. The minimum age is 16. It is not suited to pregnancy, and you need to run uphill in snow, keep your balance and have a secure grip.
Weight and age limits
The operator's FAQ recommends at most 170 kg (375 lb) together per sled and a maximum age of 70. These are the operator's recommendations, not a national rule. Ask before you book if you have a health condition or limited mobility.
Meeting point and times
Be at the Radisson Blu in the center 15 minutes before departure. Departures listed are 7:30, 8:30, 9:30 and 10:30 am. Bring your own hat and gloves, and sunglasses from February to April.
Where to stay →What to wear
The program is mostly outdoors.
Supplied
The husky program lends a thermal suit and boots. You still need to bring a hat and gloves.
For the reindeer visit
The reindeer host asks for at least two layers of warm clothing, a hat, gloves and winter boots.
Sunglasses
The husky operator lists sunglasses for February to April. See the weather page for the season.
The dogs
How to judge animal welfare before you book.
Villmarkssenter describes the care and training of its dogs as the core of its work. That is the operator's own statement and not an independent certification, so treat it as a starting point.
Ask the operator how the dogs are housed, how long they run and how they rest. Summer husky walks and puppy training are a separate product and are no sign of how a winter tour is run.

Reindeer sledding with a Sámi family
A different winter trip, run by Sámi reindeer herders.
Tromsø Arctic Reindeer describes itself as a Sámi reindeer herding family business. The culture program belongs to this host and is not a statement about all Sámi, so read it as one family's offer. The long tour runs daily from Oct 31, 2026 to Apr 4, 2027. It lasts 4 hours in total, with 25 to 30 minutes on the sled, and includes the transfer, lunch, feeding and the culture program.
In the low season, Nov 1 to Dec 11, 2026, Jan 11 to Feb 12, 2027 and Mar 8 to Apr 4, 2027, adults pay NOK 2,090 and children NOK 1,045. In the high season, Dec 12, 2026 to Jan 10, 2027 and Feb 13 to Mar 7, 2027, adults pay NOK 2,350 and children NOK 1,175. Children under 3 are free. The upper age of the child price is not shown, and the price for Oct 31 is not listed, so ask for both.

Other reindeer products
The short sled ride (10–15 minutes, 4 hours in total) starts at NOK 1,890. Feeding with a meal and no sled ride takes 4 hours and starts at NOK 1,490. The express visit takes about 3 hours, has no lunch and no ride, and starts at NOK 990.
Meeting point and cancellation
The long tour meets 15 minutes before departure at Prostneset, Samuel Arnesens gate 5. The product page lists free cancellation up to 24 hours before.
Feeding rules
The municipal guide for tour operators does not allow feeding reindeer on excursions. The family business sells controlled feeding at its camp. Do not assume you may feed reindeer you meet elsewhere.
For ski touring and hiking, the Lyngen Alps guide has more. For the region as a whole, see Northern Norway.
